What's the idea?
Our mission is to try and raise one million US dollars for cancer research. We recognize donors on our 10,000 square inch flag. Every $100 donated for cancer, will be recognized as one square of space on the flag, as well as a 100-pixel square image the digital flag on www.onemilliondollarflag.org. On the webpage, the donor or sponsor will have the choice of linking his pixels to a website of his choice or creating a personal page designated to how their loved ones lives and their own are affected by cancer. Donors and sponsors can manage their personal pages and pixels online.
The Pledge
Our pledge is to physically show the flag to over two million people by carrying the flag around and showing over 20 million people online by attracting online visitors. We will carry the flag around town and participate in large events such as the Boston Marathon. Yes, we will run the Boston Marathon with the Flag! There will be over one million spectators at Boston Marathon alone! Our goal is to show the flag to as many people as we possibly can!

Who am I?
I am an alum from MIT's Computer Science program currently working for TripAdvisor.com. I ran track and cross country in high school and I was in the MIT varsity Cross Country team for four years. I love running. Here is a picture of me with the flag.
Where does the money go?
You donation goes to the MIT Center for Cancer Research. Your money will be used to help advance our understanding of cancer. (more text to come...)
Why the flag, Why running and Why cancer?
My grandfather died of colon Cancer. He was a great doctor and saved many lives. Later his brother was diagnosed with the same cancer later but survived. I want to create something not just for my grandfather but for people like him. I also love running, a lot. My highest milage was 1,200 miles within three months. In the last three weeks of that three months, I ran over 110 miles per week. However, my knee was injured and I cannot over do my training. (I can train a lot at a slow pace and less than 50 miles a week). Combing some other Internet ideas running with a huge flag will attract attention and hence help businesses advertise. In return, all the proceeds go towards cancer research. Meanwhile, people who are affected by cancer can join the website and share their stories with others.
How is the flag made?
The flag is made of two players of 50% cotton material. The flag pole is made of half wood and half PCV pipe. (top 1/2 is wood and bottom 1/2 is PCV pipe.) I’ve tried different combinations; this combination gives me flexibility and stiffness I need in the strong Boston wind. My mother helped me made the flag. Here is a picture of her making the flag in my apartment.
How are the images printed on the flag?
The images are transferred to the flag using a heat press machine and iron transfer paper. The picture will be detailed. Images will be shrunk to size to fit on the home page.Â
What does the flag look like on the street?
Here is a picture my friend Stan took. That's Craig and I running on the Newbury St. with the flag. It is an attention grabber and a great place to put your logo or ads.

What’s the difference between a sponsor and a donor?
Donors are individuals who want to make a contribution to fight cancer. Donations can be anyway where between $1 to $1,000,000. Donations at $100 or above will be recognized by flag real estate and pixels on the web. Donations below $100 will be recognized on the recognition page. Pixels and flag real estates representing donations below $100 will be a uniform design and color.
Sponsors are corporations and businesses who want to make a contribution to fight cancer. Sponsors contribution needs to be in amounts greater then $100. Some slight restriction on the type of sponsors might apply.
Can I change my pixels and pictures on the flag?
Yes. If you donated above $100, you will be invited to become a member of OneMillionDollar Flag. You can manage your pixels via your member profile. However at this point we cannot say how long it will take. So please pick your pixels carefully.
Can I change my personal page?
Yes. If you donated above $100, you will be invited to become a member of OneMillionDollar Flag. Any changes you make to your personal page will be reflected within one day.
Why are there so many grammar and spelling mistakes on the web?
Sorry about it, I am working to improve my language skills. I make a lot of mistakes especially when I am really tired after a long run. I am not good at languages in general. I barely pass my Chinese exams, my first language, when I was in China. Let me know if you know some tips to help me improve. I would really appreciater it!
